Terrific treasure trail - Charnwood Museum

That time of the year is approaching when the Great British Public get in their cars and go out and take part in something called a 'Festival of Archaeology', which would be great if they got a better picture of what real archaeology is. Not in Charnwood they won't, note the comic-book language:
Learn all about treasure from Loughborough and Leicestershire, have a go at handling some artefacts and do a terrific treasure trail! Also, learn more about metal detecting skills with the Loughborough Coin and Search Society in a fun-packed day
The Brilliant Bronze Age: enjoy the free gallery game – hunt around the museum to discover the clues about the brilliant Bronze Age, all through the Festival of Archaeology.
No doubt the local metal detector supplier's shop just down the road will be open all day...For more about the Loughborough gang, see here:

and the fate of a local collection made by somebody who 'learnt more about metal detecting skills' emptied a number of sites of huge numbers of diagnostic and other artefacts, sold some on eBay and then seven years ago sold the rest to get rid of it ('Detectorist selling up' PACHI Friday, 26 March 2010 ). How many more similar ephemeral personal collections of hoiked artefacts do we need in Charnwood - is that one of the issues the Museum will be addressing in their populist outreach about 'metal detecting skills'?

Shame on you, Museum. Read the 1970 UNESCO Convention, article 10b.
